New Book! Enigmas and Mysteries from the Sea

Buques Fantasma; Desapariciones Misteriosas; Criptozoología; Faros encantados; Submarinos perdidos; Expediciones malditas

Are there rogue waves and other sea phenomena capable of engulfing a ship in seconds?
What is really the Flying Dutchman? Do Ghost Ships actually exist?
Do more ships go missing in the Bermuda Triangle than elsewhere?
What was the fate of the missing Franklin Expedition?

The sea is full of mysteries and unusual events that science has not yet been able to explain. Events that, even for seafarers or scholars, are still unknown. Since ancient times, many legends about the enigmas of the oceans have been passed from generation to generation and, although some have been classified as mere myths, others continue to put the scientific community in check.

The purpose of the author, a professional sailor and diver himself, is none other than to analyze many of the most famous arcana that occurred in the seven seas from the perspective of healthy skepticism.

In these pages we will discover that much of what we think we know is nothing more than noise that diverts our attention from the real unknowns. We will embark on an amazing journey to the ocean depths to discover all its immensity. Embark. You will never see the ocean the same way again

The Jack the Ripper Letters

We put in context the most important letters attributed to Jack the Ripper: the one received on September 24, the “Dear Boss” letter, the “Saucy Jacky” postcard and, of course, the sinister “From Hell”, which came accompanied of half a human kidney.

Were any of them written by the infamous Whitechapel and Spitalfields killer?

Jack the Ripper: open case

Jack el Destripador: caso abierto is the most comprehensive investigation work in spanish about the crimes that terrorized London’s Eat End in the fall of 1888.

Nowadays we know the profiles of these women that became victims of a double edged sword: the victorian society that marginalized them and turned them into pariahs, leaving them to suffer alcoholism, misery and forced prostitution; and the hand of a killer that used the gutters of that same society to murder them freely.

The work, winner of the VII Juan Antonio Cebrián Prize, dives into the crime scenes turning the spotlight on the suspects files, evidence, press report of the era, victims’ biographies, social context and the most recent investigations, turning the reader into a real detective.

The Enigmas of Easter Island

Los Enigmas de la Isla de Pascua
Los Enigmas de la Isla de Pascua

Easter Island, located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and the most isolated inhabited place of the planet, hides one of the most intriguing mysteries of archaeology. In this volcanic island of only 163.3 sqare kilometers and a population of no more than 4000 people, we can count around 900 statues called moai; statues with an average of 4 1/2 meters of height and a weight of 14 tons, although some can reach 21 meters of height and more that 80 tons.

But why were they built, or how they were transported from the quarry where they were sculpted are not the only enigmas of this unusual place. The origins of the rapanui people, their language, their still undeciphered writing, petroglyphs, their burials and –above all– their strange cults and beliefs, make this place one of the most challenging to historians.

The author, who lived on the island for almost two months walking and studying it from corner to corner, gives us in this work a complitation of all the relevant investigations made to date about Rapa Nui and its past. Theories and hypothesis of the different scholars, the myriad of questions still to be answered and –why not– his own deductions, born from calmly reflecting between those archaeological remains, from intimate conversations with the islanders and from the vast documentation used.

An essential book for anybody wishing to dive into the mysteries and wonders that this place, called by its inhabitants the “Navel of the World”, still hides.

RMS Titanic

R.M.S. Titanic
R.M.S. Titanic

Why did Titanic actually sink? Was she really considered unsinkable? Is it true she was the first vessel to send an S.O.S? Why did their crew apparently ignore all danger warnings? Is it true that an egyptian mummy was traveling on board and that there were amazing premonitions that foresaw the catastrophe?

This book tries to answer all these and many other questions, always from the witnesses point of view, the people that survived that cold april night in 1912. Ample documentation of the period studied by the author, together with his own experience as a sailor and as a diver, will give us a different point of view regarding a catastrophe about which everybody thinks they know inside out.

Maybe we’ll see that everything we’ve been told isn’t necessary the truth…
